Hi everyone,
I have been spoiled by an old grip program at an old job. I want to re-create the functionality using a journal, but I cannot seem to get any where close. My problem is that Siemens programmers have overlooked (in my eyes) an essential part of drafting. The revision block, notes and symbols could be automated, I've seen it. GTAC said that there are no plans in the future to add this functionality to NX. Anyone got any ideas?
re: revison block
Everyone seems to do the revision block/notes a bit differently; which is probably why Siemens is in no hurry to add such tools. Sounds like a great time for some customization!
The company I used to work for also had a GRIP program for revisions, but I don't necessarily want to duplicate that one. I'd like to hear what ideas you have for a revision block program. Perhaps we can merge the best ideas into something useful.
Revision Block
Firstly, I think utilizing the pre configured REV block within the tables palette is a good start. Then have one program to add the block to a specified point on the drawing (depending on what sheet size of course) just as the BOM requires. Then have a user input box to populate the text field and place the revision indicators on the sheet where needed. Also being able to keep names of components and component numbers(stock list) would be useful as well. Maybe even something within the program to select a component to place the callout in the text of the revision notes (Team Center Name or Team Center #). This is a good starting point I think. Another thing to think about is we need to think about adding a second revision to a drawing as well... :)
