NX documentation

From some of the questions here, I get the impression that some people don't have access to the standard NX API documentation. Is that true, or is my impression mistaken? Why/how would someone have NX, but not the documentation? Students, maybe? People whose system admins didn't install the docs? Or what?

In recent versions of NX, the programming help isn't installed by default; some may have access to the modeling help, but not the programming help. If you do have the programming help installed, there is a message about not being able to run a compiled help file on the network and a blurb about contacting your system administrator; some may turn back when reading this message.

And let's be honest, the NX object model is very large and complicated; the .net API reference documents it well, but offers little in the way of explanation or example. Someone relatively new to programming will still have plenty of questions even if they have full access to the .net API reference file.

Yes, I know the standard documentation is complex, and it's hard to get started. If it were better, then sites like this one would not be as valuable as they are. I just thought that there might be some community of folks who don't have any documentation at all. In answering questions, I was considering giving people pointers to the docs, but that's no use to a guy who doesn't have them.

Standart documentation by Siemens is sucks! The structure of program was described a very little... Don't describe how to use (call) these or other methods and functions... And the documentation as a whole is very bad: no normal search, no normal and full description for the theory of CAE (you can watch and compare the documentation for ANSYS or Abaqus or CATIA or even Solid Works...).

Also some tools (like the creation User Defined Beam Section by Face of solid in CAE) are developed very foolishly, and
there is no possibility get to them and modify them..

My question was "do you *have* the docs", not "do you *like* the docs".

NX Documentation is not part of NX installation, it has different installation. May be because it takes additional space. If its not required then no need to install.

Anyone can install standard documentation! And maybe install NX CAST (maybe it is free).

The CAST product (self-paced tutorial lessons) is no longer available from Siemens. It has been replaced by Siemens Learning Advantage. To the best of my knowledge, CAST wasn't a free product when it was available.
